Normal refuse collection on voting day, drop-offs to be closed

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Waste Management Directorate wants to notify residents of a possible impact on waste services due to the public holiday for elections on Wednesday, 29 May 2024. While services will continue as normal, collection teams might arrive earlier than expected.
Formal areas
Services will continue according to public holiday arrangements.
Residents are reminded of the following:
- As normal, please place your bin outside for collection by 06:00 on the scheduled refuse collection day.
- Please be encouraged not to wait for the refuse collection vehicle to enter your street before taking the bin to the pavement. The collection teams might arrive much earlier than usual as there is likely to be reduced traffic congestion on the roads on these days.
- Should there be delays and your refuse is not collected on the scheduled day, please do not leave it outside overnight. Take it out again each day until it has been collected.
Please do not resort to dumping.
Informal areas
Services will continue according to public holiday arrangements.
Area cleaning and door-to-door refuse collection services will not be affected by the public holiday. If the waste is not collected due to any unforeseeable circumstances, residents can take bagged waste to the closest shipping container.

Drop-off facilities
All of these City sites, which accept recyclables, will be closed on the day. We regret any inconvenience this may cause.
